Academic Holds

I received an academic hold for Immunization Requirement noncompliance. What should I do?

First: Students must ensure they have fulfilled the Immunization Requirements outlined on this website. To fulfill the requirement, students can upload their records using The Ashe Center Patient Portal. See the FAQ related to Document Submission for more details.

I've reviewed Medical Clearances on the Patient Portal and I'm noncompliant for one or more items. What should I do?

If students are missing a necessary vaccination or test, they can schedule an appointment by going to The Ashe Patient Portal and selecting the option "Incoming Students 2021 Immunization Requirement." Appointments are available from 9am-4pm three days per week to ensure students can receive the necessary immunizations on time.

What if I can't locate one or more of my immunization requirement documents to upload?

Proof of vaccination or evidence of immunity is a UCLA requirement. Students have two options if they cannot locate their records for submission / immune compliance:

Students can use The Ashe Center Patient Portal to make an Immunization Requirement appointment at The Ashe Center. To do this: Log in to the Portal, select Appointments, then select Immunization Requirement Appointment. You can then meet with an Immunization nurse to review your medical record and determine the next steps to ensuring you are immune compliant. Appointments are available three days per week, 9am-4pm.

Students can schedule an appointment with their primary care provider to complete the necessary titers documenting evidence of immunity. The Immunization Requirement form for outside providers is available to help assist with this process.

I've taken all necessary steps to complete my immune requirements. When will my academic hold be removed?

Academic holds for immune compliance are updated regularly and should be removed 1-2 business days after completing all immunization requirements (Note: Immune compliance is designated when all fields of the Medical Clearances are listed as SATISFIED [green check mark] on The Ashe Center Patient Portal).

Exceptions

Are all of the immunization requirements eligible for exceptions?

The UC Immunization Requirements are not eligible for Religious exceptions. The only accepted exception is a Medical exception. Read more about exceptions.

Flu Vaccination Mandate

Is the flu vaccination different from the other UC Immunization requirements?

Flu vaccines are not due until Nov 19th and no holds will be placed for noncompliance. If students wish to opt out of the flu vaccine, they can do so through the UCLA Daily Symptom Survey.

Studying Remotely or Internationally

I am studying remotely (away from campus, including international students studying abroad) and I received an academic hold. How should I proceed?

For COVID-19 vaccination: Students studying remotely (including international students) must indicate their remote status using the UCLA Symptom Monitoring System at least once to ensure they are not subject to an academic hold.

For all others immunization requirements:Remote attestation will not satisfy the Immunization Requirements to remove your academic hold.

International Students studying remotely out of country will be granted extensions for vaccines that are not available in their location. If you will remain outside the United States for the Fall quarter and can’t get your required vaccinations, first check the Medical Clearances section to see if you have already been given an exception. If not, contact us through the patient portal. Choose Messages, New Messages, then Immunization Requirement Question. Let us know about your situation and we will work with you to avoid an enrollment hold.

What if I prefer to receive the immunization requirements off campus?

Students can go to a local pharmacy to complete the requirements.

A note on UCSHIP coverage: UCSHIP students can go to a pharmacy without a referral. To ensure UCSHIP coverage, students should NOT use the Minute Clinic.UCSHIP students must receive all vaccines by a pharmacist in order for the UCSHIP insurance to cover the cost.

If receiving services at a local pharmacy, students must then upload documentation to The Ashe Center Patient Portal to become compliant. For information on uploading immunization documentation, visit the Document Submission FAQs available on this site.

Requirements Currently In Process

I've received my first dose of MMR or Varicella and need to wait for my second dose. Can I have an extension to remove my academic hold?

Yes. If you are actively in the process of getting second doses for MMR or Varicella, first check the Medical Clearances section to see if you have already been given an exception. If not, contact us through the Ashe Center Patient Portal. Choose Messages, New Messages, then Immunization Requirement Question. Let us know about your situation and we will work with you to avoid an enrollment hold.
